Obituary

James Russell Garcia, known affectionately to friends and family as Russell or Russ, passed away on June 16, 2026, at the age of 69, just two days shy of his 70th birthday. Born on June 18, 1956, Russ left behind a legacy of laughter and warmth. A proud graduate of Marian High School, a private Catholic school in Houston, he was a true jokester at heart. He possessed a quick wit and a natural ability to bring a smile to anyone’s face, always striving to make those around him laugh.

From the time he was a kid well into adulthood, Russ worked closely alongside his father. Together, they delivered newspapers for the Houston Chronicle and ran a vending machine business, managing cigarette machines, pool tables, and pinball machines. He carried that strong work ethic throughout his life, dedicating over 30 years as a skilled construction foreman for Marek Brothers, leading with both expertise and hard work.

Russ was a devoted family man who loved his wife and poured his heart into his role as a father, raising his two daughters. He proudly embraced his two stepchildren as his own—they hit it off instantly and fit right into his heart and life. He was also a proud and doting grandfather to his two grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, stepbrothers, and sisters, as well as a beloved niece and a large circle of extended nieces and nephews brought into his life through marriage. His deep affection extended to the family dogs, whom he loved dearly.

An avid learner with a curious mind, Russ loved to read and watch history movies, videos, and documentaries. After a courageous battle with long-term heart failure and recent health complications, he passed away in his home with his loving wife by his side. Russ will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by the loving family and close friends who cherished his bright humor, dedication, and companionship.
