Jeffery James Alexander Jr.: A Life Lived with Love, Laughter, and Purpose
Jeffery James Alexander Jr., affectionately known as Jeff or “Junnie” to his family, was born on September 14, 1974, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to his proud parents, Jeffery Sr. and Lyndell Alexander. He grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where his infectious humor, playful nature, and natural charm made him a beloved friend to all.
Jeff had a unique gift for creating joy wherever he went. His deep family bonds were at the heart of his life, and he spent countless joyful hours with his cousins, neighborhood friends, and his uncle Kendall (Kendall Knatt), who was like a big brother to him. From family gatherings to endless laughter and good-natured mischief, these relationships shaped him into the vibrant, loving person everyone knew. He often reminisced about the fun they shared, whether at his parents’ house, Aunt Jerry’s (Geraldine Cormier) house, or Aunt Pat’s (Patricia Francis) home—both of whom held special places in his heart.
Jeff treasured his family relationships, often expressing how he and his cousins grew up as close as siblings, grounded in the belief that family always comes first. In his own words, “We grew up as brothers and sisters. It was always taught that family is first. Man, what a time we had at family reunions, parties, fussing with each other (what family doesn’t do that?), but we still love one another always and wouldn’t change it for the world.”
At 15, Jeff and his family moved to Houston, Texas. There, he continued to live life on his own terms, a free spirit with an independent streak a mile wide. Jeff later pursued his passions, graduating from both Barber College and Culinary School. His skills made him a master of fresh fades and fantastic food, earning him a reputation for leaving people looking sharp and well-fed. His famous oxtails were a particular crowd-pleaser, and he loved making others feel cared for and uplifted.
The most transformative chapter of Jeff’s life began when he met Wendellyn (Wendy) Muckleroy, the woman who would become his beloved wife and partner. They married on February 7, 2010, forging a bond that inspired Jeff to strive to become his best self. Wendy’s love, encouragement, and unwavering support were instrumental in helping him turn his life around. Jeff often referred to her as his guiding light, though Wendy might have said she was simply keeping him out of trouble. Their love brought the beautiful gift of their daughter, Payton Alexander, into the world—a joy Jeff treasured deeply.
Faith became central to Jeff’s life, and on September 20, 2009, he joined Christ Worship Center, where he served faithfully as an usher. Known for his warm handshake and welcoming smile, Jeff made everyone feel at home. His strong faith, coupled with his heartfelt service, was a blessing to the congregation and those who knew him.
Jeffery was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wendy; his grandparents, Claude Sr. and Theresa Alexander, Chester Francis, and Lizzie Knatt; his aunts, Patricia Francis and Janella Marie Alexander; his uncles, Clarence Lazard, Edward Ward Sr., Claude Alexander Jr., Joseph Alexander, and Taffory Alexander; and his first cousins, Alisha Alexander, Edward Ward Jr., and Bryant Williams.
He leaves behind his children, Jeffery Alexander III, Javia Alexander, and Payton Alexander; his stepchildren, Nylia and Elijah Watts; his Godson & Nephew, Josiah Alexander; his parents, Jeffery Alexander Sr. and Lyndell Alexander; his sisters, Adrienne and Jessica Alexander; his brother, Joshua Alexander; his uncle Kendall, who was like a brother to him; his beloved nephew; Judah Alexander; his godparents, Shirley and Edward Arceneaux; his sweet granddaughter, Royalty Alexander; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends. His family and friends will forever carry Junnie’s infectious humor, joyful spirit, and unwavering love for life.
Junnie lived fully and unapologetically. His laugh was contagious. His heart was boundless. His zest for life inspired everyone around him. Though he is gone, the joy he brought, the laughter, warmth, and unfiltered honesty—will keep his spirit alive forever. Rest easy, Junnie! You’ll always be the heartbeat of our family and the smile in our memories.
